Scholarships, Financial Support and Student Financing
In Germany, very few scholarships are awarded directly by the universities. However, there are various ways to obtain financial support.
What you should know
STIBET scholarships (DAAD)
International students intending to graduate (degree-seekers) can apply for a STIBET scholarship from the 3rd semester onwards. The scholarships are only awarded for one semester at a time and can be reapplied for each semester.
Financial Aid for international students
International students intending to graduate (degree-seekers) can apply for financial aid (Beihilfe) from the 3rd semester of the curriculum (Bachelor) or from the 2nd semester of the curriculum (Master).
DAAD Prize
The German Academic Exchange Service prize (DAAD Prize) for outstanding achievements by international students at German universities is endowed with 1,000 euros per university.
Book Grant (Oskar Karl Forster Scholarship)
You can apply for a book grant as part of the Oskar Karl Forster Scholarship from the 2nd semester at the earliest. This is a one-off grant for the purchase of books or other learning materials.
Other scholarships

The Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) offers a favorable opportunity to finance a first degree . Within the standard period of study, half of it is granted as an interest-free loan and half as a grant, i.e. one half is given as a gift. Citizens of the European Union, migrants and refugees living in Germany can apply for BAföG (only available in German) as financial support during their studies. Please read all the information on BAföG on the website of the Studierendenwerk Niederbayern / Oberpfalz.

The DAAD-Stiftung's Emergency Fund supports students in the event of a sudden loss or an unexpected stroke of fate that jeopardizes the successful continuation of their studies. The emergency situation must not be self-inflicted and all other possible solutions (e.g. scholarships, financial support from the university, assistance from family and friends, student jobs, other personal options, student loans, other) must have been exhausted.
In a YouTube video, the Deutsches Studierendenwerk provides an overview of the costs incurred and ways to finance living and studying in Germany.
