Research at the OTH Regensburg

Welcome to OTH Regensburg, one of the strongest research universities for applied sciences in Bavaria. We conduct research in line with clearly defined key topics and since 2013 (together with OTH Amberg-Weiden) have been entitled to bear the title of Technical University.

Our research activities are clearly aligned with the economic structures of the Regensburg region. Together with our partners, we generate significant innovation impulses on several levels. To ensure that this remains the case, we create framework conditions that ensure the quality and transfer of our research.

Interdisciplinary and regional research

Interdisciplinary work, solving complex problems as a team: The collaboration of researchers across the boundaries of faculties, disciplines and laboratories - that is the core of the Research Centers (RC). Since 2012, OTH Regensburg has used them to demonstrate its concentrated research expertise in important future fields like almost no other university. Collaborative research also plays a decisive role at OTH Regensburg. Researchers from OTH Regensburg and OTH Amberg-Weiden have been cooperating in research clusters along the OTH's key topics since 2014.

European research

OTH Regensburg is working together with seven European universities in the ARTEMIS joint project. Together, the partners are reshaping research, study, exchange and innovation.

ARTEMIS brings together leading researchers from different disciplines to develop innovative solutions for social challenges - particularly in the areas of sustainable mobility, regional transformation and social development.

The Center for Research and Transfer (ZFT) sees itself as a point of contact for companies and businesses from the region that are looking for cooperation opportunities in the field of research. Whether as part of contract research or laboratory services or as a cooperation partner in a publicly funded research project - companies can benefit from the scientific expertise and well-equipped research infrastructure of OTH Regensburg.

Research in the doctorate

OTH Regensburg is a research-intensive university of applied sciences with a broad spectrum of research. We conduct research on future topics and key technologies in numerous projects and interdisciplinary networks. The intensive research activities and the high transfer potential of our university go hand in hand with the innovative projects of our doctoral students. Since 2024, OTH Regensburg has had the independent right to award doctorates in six cross-university doctoral centers.
