German Language Skills
OTH Regensburg offers both German and English-language degree programmes. German language skills are only not required for the English-language Master degree programmes. For all other degree programmes, applicants who have not obtained their university entrance qualification at a German-speaking institution must provide proof of German language skills in order to enrol at OTH Regensburg.
What you should know
-
German is the basic language of instruction in most degree programmes, even in many degree programmes with English names. The required level is DSH 1, 2 or 3. You must upload your proof of German either when applying or when enrolling in the portal.
Detailed information on the requirements and deadlines can be found on the respective course page. You can search for your desired degree programme in our study programme overview.
International OTH applicants have the opportunity to take the "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang"(DSH) and other German examinations at the ZSK of the University of Regensburg.
If your German language skills are not sufficient, you can take a preparatory German language course.
These international applicants do not need a proof of German language skills:
- who have a school-leaving certificate that is equivalent to a German university entrance qualification
- who already have a Bachelor's degree from a German university in a German-language degree programme (Bachelor's certificate = proof of German language proficiency).
-
For degree programs with English as the language of instruction, either no knowledge of German or knowledge at level A2 is required.
OTH Regensburg offers these degree programs in English:
- B.Sc. International Comuputer Science (ICS) (starting from the winter semester 2026/2027 German skills on level A2 are expected to be required)
- B.Eng. International Mechanical Engineering (IME) (German skills on level A2 required)
- B. Eng International Electrical Engineering (IEE) (German skills on level A2 required)
- M.A. International Management (MEB) (no service fee)
- M.Eng. Electrical and Microsystems Engineering (MEM)
- M.Sc. Mathematics for Business and Industry (MBI)
Further information can be found on the respective course page.
Please note that a certificate of proficiency in English is required for English-language degree programs. Only the English language certificates listed on the respective degree program page will be accepted.
Note: For non-EU students, there is a service feeof EUR 500 per semester for English-language degree programs (with the exception of the Master's in International Management).
Note: The accepted certificates listed on the websites of the degree programmes refer exclusively to admission to a degree programme at the OTH Regensburg and cannot be applied to other universities.
Documentation of German language proficiency recognized for admission to a degree programme at the OTH Regensburg is determined by the Framework Regulations on German Language Examinations for Studies at German Universities (RO-DT) and is conclusive.
Proof of German language skills is a prerequisite for university admission at the OTH Regensburg. This can be acquired through the four recognized language examinations DSH, TestDaF, Studienkolleg Feststellungsprüfung "Deutsch" and DSD/GermanLanguage Diploma with the respective levels required for the field of study. These certificates are directly recognized since they provide the German language skills required for university admission.
All other accepted certificates named on the websites of the degree programmes are substitutes. In order to compensate for the missing university qualifications in accordance with the framework regulations of the HRK, the language certificates to be recognized as a substitute can only be taken into account when the next higher level is reached. Therefore, a Goethe-Certificate B2, for example, cannot replace a DSH examination even if it is classified as such in the Common European Framework of Reference.
