Your way to the AW module

1. prepare and inform

The requirements for AW modules to be taken are specified in the degree programs and described in the respective valid study and examination regulations (SPO). The SPO of your degree program provides more detailed information on whether and which AW categories are relevant for your compulsory attendance and in which study section; further information on the non-binding compulsory attendance of AW modules.

Of course, you can also take AW modules as a voluntary additional subject or for additional training.

You can use the information from the SPO to search the AW offer for suitable AW modules. You can see whether the module is being offered in the current semester by the status "taking place" in the brief overview of the AW module

It is also possible to have vhb courses (see Bavarian Virtual University) credited as an AW module.

In the current AW module handbookyou will find all AW modules offered in the summer semester 2023. You can find all AW modules from previous semesters in the archive .

You can also complete additional training courses. These are certificate programs that consist of several AW modules.

2. log in to WebUntis

Course registration takes place via WebUntis. Information about WebUntis and detailed instructions can be found on the Computer Center support page To view a list of all AW modules, select "AW courses" under the Course module tab. The abbreviations of the modules provide information about the category to which a course belongs; you can also filter by these categories in WebUntis. You can register for a maximum of three AW modules per semester.

The registration period for semester courses begins approx. one week before the start of the respective semester (March or Sept/Oct) and ends approx. one week after the start of the semester.

After the registration deadline, a selection process takes place for courses with a limited number of participants. You can view your registration status in WebUntis after the end of the registration period.

You can register for intensive courses during the semester break at the end of the previous semester (Jan/Feb or July).

3. register for the exam

You must register for the examinations in the AW courses in the student portal during the university-wide examination registration phase.

Information on the examination modalities for the respective semester can be found in the curriculum.

FAQs for students at OTH Regensburg

  • Registration for AW modules is done via WebUntis. If you need help registering via WebUntis, you can find instructions on the Computer Center's support page . You may register for three different courses per semester. The registration period is approx. one week before to approx. one week after the start of the semester.

  • You can deregister yourself via WebUntis up to one week after the end of the registration period. To do this, log in, click on the "Registration" tab and on the pencil symbol for the relevant course. There you have the option of deregistering. If you are unable to attend a course after all, please deregister so that students from the waiting list can move up.

  • The module descriptions of all modules with registration via WebUntis can be found in the AW module handbook.

  • The number of participants in some courses is limited. In these cases, a selection will be made. The selection procedure does not depend on the time of registration.

If you have not been allocated a place on a course, you have the following options:

    • You do not need the course this semester: take this or another course in a subsequent semester.
    • You need a course this semester, but not exactly the one you registered for:
      • Unsubscribe from the course you don't need on your own. If this is no longer possible, contact aw(at)oth-regensburg.de and have yourself deregistered from the course you do not wish to attend. This is fair to your fellow students, as someone from the waiting list can then take your place.
      • Attend the first lecture or contact the lecturer directly by email, you may still be able to get a place.
      • If you are still unable to find a suitable course, you can seek advice from the AW secretariat.

  • Please refer to your study and examination regulations (SPO) to find out how many AW modules you have to take and which ones you are allowed to take, as this is regulated differently in the degree programs. If you have any further questions, please contact your faculty.

  • If a course is not fully booked, lecturers can also accept you if you have already registered for three courses. Please ask the lecturer after the first lecture or contact them by e-mail.

  • You can join a language course at a higher level directly if you already have previous knowledge. Information on the language levels can be found in the respective module description. To find out what level you have according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), please carry out a self-assessment. Please click on this link.

If you still have doubts after the first course as to whether the level is suitable for you, you can seek advice from the lecturer.

  • AW modules begin approximately one week after the start of the semester. Block seminars and intensive courses have different course times, please refer to the information on the individual courses. Please refer to the course details on WebUntis (click on course name) for the exact start date of the AW modules or search for the corresponding course abbreviation in the "Semester" drop-down menu in the timetable on the WebUntis homepage.

  • Register for AW modules via QIS during the examination registration period. If you are taking an AW module as an elective subject, you cannot register directly via QIS. Therefore, please send an e-mail to the Examinations Office and register your course in this way.

  • Written language examinations take place on the day of the centrally scheduled AW examinations (AW day). The exact times can be found in the AW examination schedule, which you can find here under "Examination schedules". Your lecturer will arrange the date for the oral language exam with you.

Examinations for all other AW courses are usually held before the semester examination period in the last course.

  • Courses offered by the vhb that are directly listed as courses in the AW system are automatically recognized as AW modules.

In order to have other vhb courses at OTH Regensburg recognized, please submit an application for recognition to the chairperson of the examination board of the degree program that applies to you. Please submit the certificate you received from the vhb for your course.

  • To obtain a certificate for an AW module, please complete this form.

To obtain a DAAD certificate after completing a language course, this form can be obtained from the teacher or the AW office.

You can apply for a certificate of completion of your additional training using the following form. Certificates may only be issued together with the degree certificate after completion of the course.

The AW Secretariat is only responsible for general science elective modules. Other courses cannot be certified.

  • As the OTH Regensburg cooperates with the University of Regensburg, ZSK courses can usually be recognized.

After successfully completing the course, you will receive a certificate from the University of Regensburg. You can use this certificate to apply for credit transfer to the chairperson of the examination board of the degree program that applies to you by presenting the certificate.
