Prof. Dr. Mathias Obergrießer, who also attended the conference as Simon Höng's supervising professor, emphasises the importance of such events: "Especially in the context of OTH Regensburg's newly acquired right to award doctorates in the form of doctoral centres, it is essential that our doctoral students have the opportunity to present their research work at an international level at an early stage. The intensive exchange with leading experts from all over the world enables them to critically reflect on their own approaches, refine them and position them scientifically."
In his contribution "Towards AI-enhanced Façade Planning: Integrating Human Expertise with Machine Learning-driven Parametric Modelling," Höng presented an AI-supported method for optimising façade planning processes, a topic with high practical relevance that met with broad interest.
Simon Höng sums up: "The keen interest in our application-oriented research has shown me how valuable our contribution is, even by international standards. It also became clear how important a sound scientific approach and continuous exchange with the research community are for the quality of my dissertation. The rigorous and detailed review process of the submitted papers, which is standard practice at EC³, also helped me greatly to assess and further improve the quality of my own research. The feedback I received on site is very valuable for the further course of my doctorate."
The presence of OTH Regensburg on the international stage not only strengthens the scientific development of doctoral students, but also underlines the university's claim to establish itself as a research-strong, practice-oriented institution with growing international networking. During the conference, existing contacts between the Faculty of Civil Engineering and research institutions in Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong and elsewhere were deepened, and new ones were established.
The Graduate Centre at OTH Regensburg supports such research trips and thus makes an important contribution to the scientific qualification of young researchers.
