To ensure that new students can successfully balance their studies with work, the right support is essential right from the start. At the orientation events, new students were therefore provided with all the essential information regarding their studies, organisation and the programme structure – and were introduced to the Centre for Continuing Education and Knowledge Management (ZWW), a dedicated point of contact that will support them with all organisational matters throughout their studies.
The part-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme began its 23rd intake back in September
Turning professional expertise into entrepreneurial responsibility: with the start of the academic year on 11 September 2026, ten new students on the part-time MBA programme are making a targeted investment in developing their management and leadership skills.
Anyone who takes on responsibility in their day-to-day working life soon realises that leadership today requires more than just professional excellence. It demands an understanding of economic, technological, organisational and human interrelationships, the ability to balance differing interests, and the capacity to make decisions in the best interests of the organisation as a whole. This is precisely what the programme prepares students for: the ability to take a holistic view of complex issues, make well-founded management decisions and successfully shape change processes.
The programme is attended by students from a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, natural sciences, health, administration and social sciences. What unites them is their ambition to expand their specialist expertise to include knowledge of management, leadership and transformation, thereby positioning themselves specifically for leadership roles and greater responsibility.
In future, this diversity will be utilised and developed in an even more targeted manner: the programme itself is also continuing to grow – with a two-phase structure designed precisely for this purpose. Initially, participants develop the skills that best suit their starting point separately: the MBA in General Management gradually introduces graduates without a first degree in economics to an entrepreneurial perspective, whilst the new MBA in Leadership, Management and Transformation is specifically tailored to graduates with a degree in economics. It is only during the joint Advanced Management phase that the two streams converge – and this is precisely where the added value lies: different perspectives enrich one another, and management is not merely taught but experienced collectively through interdisciplinary exchange.
A special feature of the part-time Bachelor’s in Business Administration
On 19 September 2026, six new students will join the part-time Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration (B.A.) . Thanks to the recognition of credits from previous further education courses, they were able to join the programme directly in the second semester, thereby shortening their path to an academic degree.
A day later, they all met their ten fellow students for the first time, who have been on the programme since the first semester. Together, they began their first block week with the modules in Economics and Business Mathematics. Thereafter, classes will take place regularly on Saturdays on campus at OTH Regensburg, as well as online on selected evenings. This makes it easier to balance studies, work and family life!
The next intake starting from the first semester is scheduled for 13 March 2027. Students will then be able to join the programme in the second semester in September 2027.
Successful start to the part-time Bachelor’s degree programme in Systems Engineering
On 9 October 2026, the new cohort of the part-time Bachelor’s degree programme in Systems Engineering (B.Eng.) got off to a flying start. A total of ten students began their studies. All participants are already working in technical professions and are undertaking the programme alongside their full-time employment.
To kick things off, Programme Director Prof. Dr Herman Ketterl welcomed the new students and extended a warm welcome to them. He particularly emphasised the importance of enjoyment and motivation whilst studying. Speaking in Bavarian, he said: “Have fun with everything you do; that applies especially to your studies.”
Following a round of introductions, during which the students highlighted that they had chosen the programme because of its high proportion of face-to-face teaching and the breadth of subject matter, the participants were provided with all the essential information they needed for a successful start to their studies. Afterwards, the students took a tour of the campus to familiarise themselves with the key facilities and were given their study materials.
10 years of the part-time Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and, for the first time, two intakes starting simultaneously
On 28 September 2026, 36 students began their studies on the part-time Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Work (B.A.) at OTH Regensburg.
Due to the admission criteria being relaxed last year, two cohorts were able to start their studies in parallel for the first time in the winter semester 2026/2027 . Twelve professionals from various social and related occupational fields began their studies as normal in the first semester. In addition, 24 early years educators, therapeutic care workers and special needs teachers began their studies directly in the third semester. By having relevant training content recognised, they can shorten the standard duration of study to nine semesters.
The part-time Bachelor’s degree programme in Social Work is aimed in particular at professionals with relevant work experience who wish to expand their practical skills through a scientifically grounded course of study and thereby open up new opportunities in the labour market. The programme combines face-to-face sessions at OTH Regensburg with virtual learning and working formats. This creates a flexible study programme that makes it easier to balance study and work.
This year’s intake is a special one: The programme is celebrating its 10th anniversary. “The fact that the part-time Bachelor’s degree in Social Work has been able to start every year since its launch in September 2016 demonstrates the ongoing demand for flexible and practice-oriented qualification opportunities in social work,” emphasises programme director Prof. Dr Nicolas Schöpf. “Particularly in light of the challenges facing society and the growing demand for skilled workers, the academic training of social education professionals is more important than ever.”
