In everyday working life, technologies such as artificial intelligence, data science and the Internet of Things are becoming increasingly important. However, not every specialist or manager has an IT background. With its part-time continuing professional development programme ‘Technology Skills for Business Professionals’, OTH Regensburg helps working professionals to better understand technological developments and harness their potential within their own working environment.
The training programme provides practical knowledge on topics such as programming in Python, data science, databases, process automation, cyber security, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Participants not only gain a theoretical understanding of the latest technologies, but also apply them directly in exercises and projects.
The microcredential was established through interdisciplinary collaboration between Prof. Dr Ulrike Plach from the Faculty of Business and Management, Prof. Dr Markus Heckner from the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics, the OTHorizont project team and the Centre for Continuing Education and Knowledge Management. It combines the promotion of future skills with the concept of lifelong learning, thereby making an important contribution to the transfer of forward-looking knowledge from OTH Regensburg into practice.
“With the ‘Technology Skills for Business Professionals’ microcredential, we aim to support specialists and managers in better understanding technological developments and actively utilising them to drive the digital transformation of their organisations. Participants not only learn about the latest technologies, but are also able to immediately test and reflect on their potential in relation to operational challenges,” says course leader Prof. Dr Ulrike Plach.
To round off the training programme, participants develop their own IT project directly relevant to their professional environment. This benefits both the participants themselves and their organisations. The final project creates immediate added value in a practical context, emphasises graduate Stephan Burmeister, Head of Business Development at SSV Jahn Regensburg.
The continuing professional development programme combines digital learning resources with selected face-to-face sessions at OTH Regensburg. Online modules featuring videos, practical exercises and project-based tasks enable flexible learning. The face-to-face sessions are designed to reinforce the course content, facilitate professional discussion and enable participants to network. This makes the programme easy to fit in with everyday working life.
