FOCUS: Combating cyber threats with AI and graph technologies

The FOKUS research project is developing an intelligent platform that automatically analyses cyber threat intelligence and tailors it to the specific needs of individual organisations. AI and graph technologies are designed to help businesses detect cyber attacks at an early stage, assess risks in a targeted manner and respond automatically – particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises.

What is your research project?

The FOKUS project aims to automate cyber threat intelligence (CTI) using AI-supported analytical methods and graph technologies, and to make it usable in an organisation-specific context. Through the development of an adaptive and scalable security platform, threat data from internal and external sources is dynamically collected, analysed and integrated into existing security infrastructures. This enables companies and organisations to detect threats at an early stage, devise targeted security measures and carry out automated responses to attacks.

What excites you about the project?

Particularly noteworthy is the innovative combination of AI-supported threat analysis and graph technologies, which automates CTI and makes it usable in an organisation-specific manner. A key added value lies in the approach of using context-sensitive modelling to enable even SMEs without specialised teams to benefit from effective protection. With its adaptive architecture and integration into existing security infrastructures, the platform directly addresses the current challenges facing cyber security. In doing so, FOKUS makes an important contribution to strengthening the cyber security landscape and protecting critical infrastructure.

How can findings from the project be applied in practice?

As part of the project, OTH Regensburg aims to transfer scientific findings in a targeted manner to large-scale industry, SMEs, start-ups and German security authorities. The results will be disseminated through academic publications, specialist conferences and application-oriented industry trade fairs, and integrated into university teaching. Furthermore, there are plans to continue developing the methods and technologies in the long term in collaboration with the application partners, in order to ensure practical application and promote the sustainable transfer of knowledge.
