Writing a Final Thesis Abroad

In addition to internships or study semesters abroad, it is also possible to write a final thesis abroad - both the Bachelor's thesis and the Master's thesis.

  • There are basically two possible options you can choose:

    • Final thesis at a university abroad
    • Final thesis in a company or organization abroad

Final thesis at a university abroad
A final thesis can be written at any university/university abroad and is not necessarily linked to a partnership with the OTH Regensburg. However, there are often good connections to partner universities, which can often be a door opener. It is important that the topic is well suited and that a professor of the OTH Regensburg supports and supervises the project.

Final theses are rarely advertised. As a rule, a speculative application to the research laboratory/institution of choice at the university/college abroad is required. The application should be addressed to the head of the research laboratory/research institution.

Through research projects, university cooperations or their own stays abroad, professors often have very good contacts abroad. It may be worthwhile to actively approach professors - especially if it is a preferred supervisor.

Final thesis in a company or organisation abroad
Final theses in companies are not as popular in many countries as they are in Germany. That's why here, too, the path often leads via speculative applications. In addition, internships can sometimes be combined with a thesis. Contacts are often a door opener here as well (previous internships, friends, family, professors, etc.).

  • Start planning and applying about 6-8 months before you start your thesis. For non-European countries, the time needed to apply for a visa must be taken into consideration.

  • OTH Regensburg

    Further support possibilities

  • The final thesis must always be supervised by a professor of the OTH Regensburg. When planning to write a thesis abroad, a professor from the OTH Regensburg should always be involved as early as possible to support and supervise the project.
