    Lecture Overview

    10:00 – 10:40 a.m. | Room K004
“Alcohol: Why We Drink It – and What It Does to Us”
    Speaker: Prof. Klaudia Winkler

For many of us, alcohol consumption is a natural part of everyday life – whether it’s an after-work beer, a glass of sparkling wine to celebrate a special occasion, beer pong to welcome first-semester students, or alcohol at campus festivals. In the lecture “Alcohol: Why We Drink It – and What It Does to Us”, alcohol will be examined as a psychoactive substance that may provide short-term relaxation, relief, and a sense of well-being, but whose consumption also carries significant long-term risks. The lecture focuses on the mechanisms that make alcohol both “effective” and, at the same time, potentially problematic. The talk is aimed at both staff and students and invites participants to reflect on the role alcohol plays in our society as well as on their own relationship with alcohol.

    11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | Room K004
“Hangover or High Performance – A Conscious Approach to Alcohol in Everyday Life”
    Speaker: Tim Englbrecht (GetFitByTim GmbH)

How exactly does alcohol affect the body? When does consumption become problematic? And what delicious alternatives are available? This lecture revolves around the topic of alcohol prevention – informative, practical, and without being moralizing. The focus is on typical situations from student life: parties, peer pressure, habits, and the question of how alcohol affects concentration, sleep, performance, and overall well-being. In a clear and practical way, participants will learn about the effects regular alcohol consumption can have on the body and brain, and why conscious decisions are often more closely linked to everyday routines and social environments than we might think. The aim of the lecture is not to lecture or prohibit, but to provide knowledge, encourage reflection, and promote a mindful approach to alcohol. Participants will also receive practical strategies for navigating social situations without excessive alcohol consumption. In addition, visitors can look forward to alcohol-free mixed drinks. The accompanying information stand invites participants to discover new alcohol-free alternatives and gain fresh ideas for greater health and enjoyment in everyday life.

  • Isn’t studying possible in a more relaxed way?
A study (Healthy and Successful Studying, GesA Stud) can help you with that – the OTH Regensburg is participating:

The GesA Stud project scientifically supports you in recognizing your individual burdens, specifically strengthening your resources, and not only surviving your studies but really enjoying them.

The study, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space, runs over one semester. The main effort for participants may vary slightly depending on study conditions. We examine different conditions in various groups of students (including a waitlist control group) to achieve high scientific validity. You will regularly participate in surveys, and the active groups receive intensive support within the first 8 weeks of the study. For full participation in all surveys, you will receive €30 as a thank-you. In addition, you can win one of several vouchers worth €50, €30, or €10 (depending on participation in the study).

    Why should you participate?

    • Individual feedback – You receive personal feedback on your demands and resources in studying.
    • Health in focus – You learn tailored and effective approaches to study more relaxed and increase your performance.
    • You support research.
    • You have the chance for additional vouchers!

Registration is possible until April 26th, 2026, participate here: https://s2survey.net/GesA-Stud/

  • Become an HSN First Responder: Confident Handling of Mental Health Crises

Do you want to know how to properly approach friends or fellow students in emotional distress? The project “Helping in Mental Distress” currently offers free first-aid courses for mental health at the OTH Regensburg.

  • The University of Regensburg and OTH Regensburg will launch the joint collaborative project “Healthy Campus Regensburg – Movement. Encounter. Participation.” on April 1, 2026.

The aim of the project is to promote student health across institutions, strengthen health literacy, and establish sustainable structures for a holistic student health management system.

The project, which is planned to run for two years, is funded under the initiative “Bewegt studieren!” by the Allgemeiner Deutscher Hochschulsportverband (adh) in cooperation with Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). It is supported through external funding and is addressed to the entire campus community in Regensburg. At its core is the development of a joint “Healthy Campus Regensburg,” reflected in an expanded and coordinated portfolio of services, in sustainably embedded structures, and in a health-promoting campus environment.

With “Healthy Campus Regensburg,” both universities are pooling their expertise and jointly creating sustainable structures to support student health. Students are to be actively involved in the process and encouraged to develop services that fit their everyday lives.

In terms of content, the project focuses on expanding joint structures, increasing the visibility of existing and new health services, and actively involving students in the development of tailored measures that strengthen their health literacy both during their studies and beyond. Key areas include mental health, climate and health, the promotion of physical activity, as well as healthy and active teaching. The goal is to work together with students to shape a campus where health is an integral and self-evident part of everyday academic life. A particular concern of the project is the creation of a visible space for student health on campus, serving as a meeting place and a source of inspiration for physical activity and health-promoting behaviour.

“Healthy Campus Regensburg” is one of a total of 40 projects being implemented nationwide under the current funding phase of “Bewegt studieren!”, including 33 individual projects and seven collaborative projects. The initiative aims to systematically strengthen health promotion and prevention in the higher education context and to anchor them sustainably in structures, culture, and teaching.
