Thematically focussed research

Institutes

At established institutes, our researchers work thematically focussed on specific research topics. With their own office and scientific management, the institutes are linked to a faculty. This benefits from synergy effects, for example in teaching, but also in particular by enabling doctorates to be completed via the institute.

Institute for Social Research and Technology Assessment (IST)

The Institute for Social Research and Technology Assessment (IST), headed by Prof Dr Sonja Haug and Prof Dr Karsten Weber, conducts empirical studies in the areas of migration and family as well as education and health and examines ethical, legal and social aspects (ELSA) of technology in the areas of health, energy and mobility, information and communication technology and human-technology interaction as part of participatory technology design. It also works on sustainability and resilience issues.
