Robotics and Big Data
The Robotics and Big Data (RBD) cluster at OTH Regensburg and OTH Amberg-Weiden focuses on research activities in the field of robotics/industrial robotics and big data.

Goals & focus
The Robotics and Big Data (RBD) cluster covers a wide range of research topics that are of great importance for the future of robotics, automation and medical technology . The cluster members share a fundamental research interest in the fields of robotics and data-driven methods. Together, RBD offers a broad spectrum of expertise that covers both basic research and a wide range of application areas .
This includes topics in robotics and systems engineering, in particular new kinematics, which are increasingly used in collaborative or modular robot systems. However, time series analyses of industrial systems for predictive maintenance are also a focal point. In addition to industrial robotics applications, areas of medical and construction robotics are covered in interdisciplinary collaborations.
Signal and image processing are not only dealt with in a robotic context and automation technology, but also in medical applications, with a particular strength in machine learning methods in computer tomography. The cluster is also a strong researcher in deep learning and deep vision techniques and offers comprehensive expertise in visual computing and generative AI.
Cooperation & networking
The cluster members participate in interdisciplinary organizational units for artificial intelligence. OTH Amberg-Weiden is part of DENKWELT, which is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy with 5 million euros and whose aim is, among other things, to prepare and carry out concrete R&D and transfer projects in selected AI competence areas. OTH Amberg-Weiden is also a member of the INDIGO KI Campus Ostbayern. Another important milestone was the founding of the Innovation and Competence Center for Artificial Intelligence (IKKI) in Amberg in July 2021. The cluster members in Regensburg have been involved in the Regensburg Center for Artificial Intelligence (RCAI) since 2019.
