Start-up success

Two OTH start-ups secure funding worth millions

Two spin-offs from OTH Regensburg demonstrate the university’s potential for innovation: the start-ups Evanium and Brainjo have successfully secured seed funding running into millions.

The life sciences company EVANIUM, founded by OTH alumni David Ofner and Felix Rolka, has secured €2.2 million. Investors such as FoodLabs and Feast Ventures are backing the OPTISOLV® technology, which significantly improves the bioavailability of active ingredients in dietary supplements. EVANIUM intends to use the capital to scale up its technology, drive forward clinical trials and expand international partnerships.

The digital health start-up brainjo was also successful: the team led by CEO Markus Wensauer received €2 million in a seed round led by High-Tech Gründerfonds. brainjo develops virtual reality-based applications that complement psychotherapeutic care – particularly for children with ADHD. Together with MEDICE Health Family, the start-up is working towards the approval of its first VR-based digital health application (DiGA).

Both funding rounds underscore the strength of OTH Regensburg’s start-up ecosystem. They demonstrate how scientific ideas give rise to marketable innovations – and how graduates of the university successfully make the transition to entrepreneurial practice.
