Twenty years of dual higher education: DualForum Ostbayern provides fresh impetus

On 10 March 2026, the DualForum Ostbayern brought together representatives from universities, businesses and the dual study programme at OTH Regensburg to discuss current developments and future skills requirements within the dual study programme. The event marked the 20th anniversary of the umbrella organisation hochschule dual.

To mark the anniversary, OTH Regensburg, together with OTH Amberg-Weiden and TH Ingolstadt, hosted the DualForum Ostbayern. To celebrate this occasion, the event focused on the theme ‘Future Skills in Focus: Inspiration, Exchange and Networking in Dual Study Programmes’.

The event brought together representatives from businesses, universities and dual students to discuss dual study programmes and future skills requirements in the workplace. Participants took the opportunity to engage in initial discussions and networking during the opening reception.

Prof. Dr Carina Braun, Vice-President of OTH Regensburg, and Tina Voggenreiter, Head of the Dual Higher Education Division at the Bavarian Centre for Innovative Teaching (BayZiel), then welcomed those present.

Following the official welcome speeches, the event kicked off with a lively round of interviews, in which three current and former dual students provided insights into their everyday student life and shared their personal experiences, learning journeys and successes.

This was followed by a presentation by Anja Nigl from Ingolstadt University of Technology, which focused on key skills for the working world of the future.

New ideas emerged from the discussion

In three open discussion rounds, participants had the opportunity to actively contribute their perspectives. The first session was dedicated to future skills and was led by the project team from OTH Regensburg’s university-wide innovation project, OTHorizont. Funded with 4.8 million euros by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education, the project creates space for new ideas and perspectives in teaching and knowledge transfer. The project group is developing initiatives designed to permanently embed future skills in the learning and teaching process at OTH Regensburg.

The other two topics, staff retention and the dual Master’s programme, were determined live on site through a survey of participants’ preferences. This open format made it possible to immediately address current challenges and needs raised by those present and discuss them together.

Valuable insights emerged from interactive discussions, drawing on successful real-world examples.
