With their start-up ChargyX, Max Nebl, Johannes Ramser, Bastian Aunkofer and Florian Hofbauer are tackling an everyday problem: running out of battery power whilst out and about. Since February 2026, they have been developing mobile power bank stations where mobile phones, laptops and other devices can be charged with ease.
The start-up has already gained experience at various locations. The first charging station was installed at the Glöckl restaurant in the Donaueinkaufszentrum. Further stations were deployed at the Regensburg Spring and Autumn Fairs, the Gäubodenfest and the Ye Festival in Munich.
ChargyX is currently also present at the Munich Oktoberfest. Visitors can borrow power banks right outside the Schützenlisl marquee and charge their mobile devices whilst out and about.
New station at OTH Regensburg
For the 2026/27 winter semester, a permanent ChargyX station was also set up on the OTH Regensburg campus, on the lawn between the student union building and the computer science building. Students can borrow power banks there if they have forgotten their charging cable or are staying at the university longer than planned. Borrowing is free of charge during the first two weeks of the winter semester. After that, the rental fee is not expected to exceed one euro.
The idea for ChargyX arose whilst Max Nebl and Johannes Ramser were both visiting China at the same time. There, they noticed small charging stations in kiosks and public facilities, which people used as a matter of course.
They brought this inspiration back with them to Germany. Instead of small kiosk systems, they developed larger columns for public spaces.
It’s easy to use: via a QR code or card payment, users can take a power bank from the station and return it later.
From product development to sales: a team with roots at OTH Regensburg
Behind ChargyX are four students and alumni of OTH Regensburg. Managing Director Max Nebl completed his degree at the Faculty of Business and Management around three years ago and works full-time as an audit manager in Frankfurt. Johannes Ramser and Bastian Aunkofer are IT experts and are responsible for product development. Florian Hofbauer is responsible for brand presence and sales.
Within a short space of time, a spontaneous idea developed into a market-ready concept, with the service being used at events and in the hospitality sector. Following the launch at the first locations, the founders are planning further projects and additional sites, including in Regensburg’s old town.
