The event focused on getting to know one another and networking. New staff members were given the opportunity to make initial contacts beyond their own organisational units and to get to know OTH Regensburg as their shared employer. Following this, the university management provided an overview of the university’s development and strategic direction. President Prof. Dr Ralph Schneider encouraged participants to play an active role in shaping OTH Regensburg and to contribute their own ideas, stating that “this will enable the university to continue to develop”. Chancellor Utto Spielbauer used the organisational chart to present the structure and the diverse areas of responsibility within the university.
The Human Resources department then provided information on key topics relating to working at OTH Regensburg. In addition to organisational matters, the focus was on information regarding time recording, opportunities for further training and career development, as well as various schemes available to staff.
The programme was complemented by contributions from the Staff Council, represented by its chairwoman Petra Knoch, and the Buildings and Technology Department, represented by its head Franz Mader, who provided the new colleagues with further important information and guidance to help them get started at the university.
Once again, the campus rally proved to be a particular highlight. In small groups, the participants explored the campus, familiarised themselves with the key facilities and were able to broaden their knowledge of the university in a variety of ways.
The positive feedback from participants showed that the Welcome Day makes an important contribution to helping new staff settle in at OTH Regensburg. The networking opportunities, the insights into the university and its support services, and the campus rally – the highlight of the day – were particularly appreciated. This feedback thus reaffirmed the high importance of the Welcome Day in the onboarding process.
