‘What is the application deadline for International Business Management?’, ‘What documents do I need to submit?’ or ‘How does the degree programme at OTH Regensburg work?’ - Prospective students can now ask questions like these to a virtual student advisor around the clock.
The Faculty of Business and Management at OTH Regensburg has developed an AI-supported student advisor who can answer questions about all of the faculty's Bachelor's degree programmes easily and anonymously. It is based on ChatGPT technology, combined with a specially prepared knowledge base from the faculty.
The digital advisor not only helps with traditional questions about application deadlines, admission requirements and course content, but also with choosing the right degree programme, provides insights into everyday study life at OTH Regensburg and provides information about career prospects. In this way, it complements the existing counselling services and, above all, can be reached at any time and from anywhere.
‘With the KI study advisor, we want to make it easier for prospective students to get started and provide them with the best possible support in their choice of degree programme,’ says Prof Dr Christian Dach, who implemented the project together with student assistant Laura Dieplinger. However, he also points out: ‘The AI study advisor offers initial guidance, but does not replace personal counselling from the Dean's Office or the student advisory service - especially for individual and binding questions.’ Following its successful introduction at the Faculty of Business and Management, the AI study advisor will soon also be used for degree programmes at the other seven faculties at OTH Regensburg.
The AI Study Advisor can be started conveniently via the faculty's website. All users need is a free basic account with ChatGPT. Questions can be asked in writing or by voice. An AI study advisor with a voice function is a first at a German university. It can be used anonymously and without data collection by the university.
An important note: No confidential or personal data is transmitted to OTH Regensburg when using the AI advisor. The university has no access to the content or usage data; the external provider OpenAI is solely responsible for data processing.
The virtual student counsellor is now available online here.
