For the 16th time, the Verein der Freunde der OTH Regensburg e.V. has honoured the voluntary work of two students and a student group with the prize for student commitment. This time, two individuals and a student council were honoured for their special commitment to their fellow students and life on campus. For the first time this year, faculty prizes were also awarded to students who have made a special contribution to their faculty.
The award ceremony, which traditionally takes place at the campus festival, could not be held as planned due to a storm and the cancellation of the festival at short notice. Instead, the award winners were honoured at the association's general meeting on 10 July 2025.
Jury chooses from over 40 proposals
A total of 26 proposals were received for the classic individual and group prizes. The jury, consisting of representatives from the Friends' Association, the university management and students, made the final selection:
- Simon Chrisostome (Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics)
- Felicitas Teichert (Faculty of Natural and Cultural Sciences)
- Faculty of Natural and Cultural Sciences
The two individual prizes are endowed with 500 euros each, the group prize with 1,000 euros.
The student councils and deans' offices nominated 14 students for the faculty prizes, which were awarded for the first time. The following prize winners were honoured:
Kristina Ebner (Architecture), Usama Bhatti (Applied Natural and Cultural Sciences), Selina Bögerl (Business and Management), Michael Baumgartner (Electrical Engineering and Information Technology), Fabian Regnet (Mechanical Engineering) and Jeremias Herbst (Social and Health Sciences). They are all committed to good study conditions at their faculties in a variety of ways.
Role models for commitment and cooperation
Felicitas Teichert not only represents the interests of the students in her faculty as head of the student council and as a student member of the faculty council, but also works beyond the boundaries of her own faculty as a course ambassador for the Microsystems Engineering degree programme. She is also actively involved in the design of the campus as a member of the Student Convention.
‘He is a role model for sustainable, solution-orientated and responsible commitment,’ is how his fellow students summed up Simon Chrisostome's commitment. Simon Chrisostome was active for several years as a board member of the Computer Science and Mathematics student council. Since 2024, he has been extensively involved as Chairman of the Student Convention. He has initiated and successfully implemented new structures in the student council. Simon Chrisostome is considered to be team-orientated and is highly committed to the interests of students.
The group prize went to the Applied Natural and Cultural Sciences student council. The student council is the first point of contact for students in the faculty. It is actively involved in university committees and promotes social interaction through numerous events. In addition, the student council develops interdisciplinary and culturally diverse formats in order to integrate international students in particular and support them in their day-to-day studies.
Students shape a vibrant, diverse and strong university
"It is impressive to see how passionately our students are committed to their fellow students. With the awards, we want to make this commitment visible and honour it. My thanks go to all the nominees and of course to the award winners," said Michael Thurner, Chairman of the Association of Friends of OTH Regensburg e.V.
"The commitment of our students makes our university vibrant, diverse and strong. The award winners impressively demonstrate how important voluntary work is for cohesion on campus. I would like to thank them all for their valuable contributions and congratulate them on this well-deserved award," said Prof. Dr Carina Braun, who as Vice President of OTH Regensburg is responsible for Student Lifecycle Management, among other things.
