OTH Regensburg was unanimously accepted as a new member at the annual meeting of the Danube Rectors' Conference (DRC) on 13 November 2025.
Prof. Dr Oliver Steffens, Vice-President for Research and International Affairs, presented OTH Regensburg for a final vote before the plenary assembly at the 2025 Annual Conference in Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The admission was requested by the university management with a letter of confirmation from the German Rectors' Conference and recommended by the DRC Presidium.
The DRC is an association of over 70 universities and colleges in the Danube region. ‘For OTH Regensburg, as an internationally active university with regional roots, joining the DRC is a logical step towards intensifying networking with the dynamically developing universities in neighbouring Central and Eastern European countries,’ said Vice President Steffens.
The DRC particularly supports exchange and cooperation among its members in order to contribute to the stability and development of an open and democratic society in Europe. It drafts position papers and advises governments and other national and international organisations on issues and challenges related to research and teaching at universities.
The DRC organises conferences, workshops and summer schools and participates in EU-funded projects. It also actively contributes to the working groups for priority areas of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. One of the biggest challenges for European higher education institutions is competition with other higher education institutions at European and global level. International engagement increases the visibility of one's own university and improves its competitive chances and development opportunities.
