Foundation for the Promotion of OTH Regensburg

A new name on the founders’ stele

From former student to benefactor: IGZ Automation GmbH has become a new co-donor to OTH Regensburg, thereby strengthening support for young talent.

The Foundation for the Promotion of OTH Regensburg has gained another co-donor: IGZ Automation GmbH from Falkenberg is now featured on the donors’ stele in front of the university entrance leading to the canteen and library. The number of names immortalised there continues to grow, highlighting the ongoing commitment to supporting students.

IGZ is an engineering firm specialising in SAP-based solutions for production and logistics processes, with around 600 employees. From strategic consultancy to technical implementation, IGZ carries out holistic projects, thereby driving forward the digitalisation of industrial processes. IGZ is thus active in areas that also play a central role in research and teaching at OTH Regensburg – for example, in the fields of production logistics and the digital factory.

A visible symbol of this partnership has now been unveiled on site: on Thursday 9 July 2026, Utto Spielbauer, Chancellor of OTH Regensburg, Mathias Semmelmann, a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, and IGZ Managing Director Alfred Meyer jointly unveiled the new plaque on the stele.

For IGZ Managing Director Alfred Meyer, the endowment also has a personal significance: “I myself studied at what was then Regensburg University of Applied Sciences and have followed with great pleasure how the university has developed and grown in recent years. It is all the more rewarding for me to now be able to give something back.” His son also studied at OTH Regensburg – an example of just how strongly the university’s influence extends across generations.

Chancellor Utto Spielbauer emphasised: “We are delighted by this special connection: when both father and son have studied here and, at the same time, a company like IGZ has developed so successfully, this is a positive sign for us and a valuable source of support.”

IGZ Automation GmbH has been collaborating with OTH Regensburg on various projects for many years, including with Prof. Stefan Galka from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Through this endowment, the company aims to further strengthen this partnership and contribute to the development of future skilled workers.

“Supporting young talent is a matter close to our hearts,” said Alfred Meyer. “Through our endowment, we wish to support the students at OTH Regensburg – also as an expression of our connection to the region and the university.”

The endowment also reinforces the foundation’s long-term commitment: for more than two decades, the Foundation for the Promotion of OTH Regensburg has been supporting, amongst other things, students’ study abroad programmes, international students at the university, and further education and training programmes.

“Endowments such as this are a key component of our work,” emphasises Mathias Semmelmann. “They enable us to provide targeted support to students whilst further strengthening the close ties between the university and the regional economy.”
