The Danube Cup is an annual competition for start-up teams from ten universities along the Danube. Twenty teams from Bavaria, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Serbia qualify for the semi-finals via local preliminary rounds. Two teams from each university will take part in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, an international jury evaluates the pitches presented online. The ten best-placed teams will travel to the final in Budapest. Both founding teams from OTH Regensburg were able to prevail against the international competition in the semi-final and thus represent the East Bavarian start-up scene at the final in Budapest.
The RocketMind team led by Celina Bauer, Lena Hiltel, Annalena Lüdeke and Marius Kloos impressed the jury with their app to improve the mental health of young people. Team OnlyFootball, led by Ferhat Baklan, also impressed the judges with an app designed to facilitate the transfer of amateur footballers. Both teams will compete in the final on May 23 in Budapest.
The aim of the Danube Cup is to help start-ups from universities achieve international success and at the same time bring together the most motivated start-up teams along the Danube. At OTH Regensburg, the international competition has been an integral part of start-up support for many years. The head of the OTH Startup Center, Prof. Dr. Sean Patrick Saßmannshausen, is delighted that two teams will be representing the university in Budapest: "With the Danube Cup, we are not only promoting the start-up culture at our university, but we are also giving students an international perspective of the Danube region. It is also important to us that our start-up teams are competitive and can assert themselves in international competitions with strong competition from outstanding universities, as preparation for their later entrepreneurial activities and as an indicator of the quality of our own work," explains Prof. Dr. Saßmannshausen. In previous years, teams from OTH Regensburg have won several prizes at the Danube Cup.
