The European Network of Material Libraries for Building Culture met at OTH Regensburg

For three days, OTH Regensburg served as a meeting place for leading European institutions specialising in historical building materials and collections of building components. The international networking event provided a forum for professional exchange, new collaborations and joint initiatives to preserve architectural heritage.

From 23 to 25 September 2026, OTH Regensburg welcomed experts from several European countries to the 6th network meeting of European building component collections. The event was hosted by the Friedrich Mielke Institute for Scalalogy (FMIS) at the Faculty of Architecture, in cooperation with the Building Component Archive of the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments in Thierhaupten.

The European Network of Material Libraries for Building Culture brings together leading institutions from European countries that collect, research, document and preserve historical building materials, components and tools for future generations. The aim of the annual meeting is to facilitate professional exchange on collection concepts, conservation, scholarly cataloguing and outreach strategies.

As part of a three-day programme, the FMIS presented its activities in the fields of building culture, heritage conservation and collection research to the international guests. Specialist presentations, guided tours and discussions provided an opportunity to exchange views on current issues and to develop joint projects. A visit to the Building Component Archive in Thierhaupten gave the international guests an insight into one of the most significant collections of historical building components in Germany.

For the FMIS, the meeting provided an opportunity to present its research and collection activities to an international specialist audience and to further expand existing collaborations in the European field of heritage conservation and cultural heritage. It thus underlined its role as a key academic partner within the European network of material libraries for built heritage and as a driving force for the research, documentation and communication of historical built heritage.

By hosting the international meeting, OTH Regensburg strengthened its profile as a key centre for research, teaching and knowledge transfer in the field of architectural heritage.
