First successful completion of a training programme at the IT Centre

Having completed his apprenticeship as an IT specialist in system integration, Kilian Kragler is continuing his studies at OTH Regensburg with a degree in Computer Engineering.

The IT Centre at OTH Regensburg is delighted to mark a special milestone in its support for young talent: Kilian Kragler has successfully completed his apprenticeship as an IT specialist for system integration. He is thus the first apprentice at the IT Centre to have successfully completed this training programme.

The apprenticeship began on 1 September 2023. In the same year, on the initiative of Dr Christian Broser, Head of the IT Centre, the centre launched its first-ever programme to train its own IT specialists. Training manager Wolfgang Moosbauer was responsible for providing professional guidance.

IT specialists in system integration ensure that an organisation’s digital infrastructure functions reliably. They plan, install and maintain IT systems, networks and servers; support users with technical queries; and help to ensure that modern IT services are operated securely and reliably. The Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) describes the programme as a three-year apprenticeship with several specialisations; the specialisation in system integration focuses in particular on the design, implementation, installation and administration of IT systems. At a university, IT specialists thus create important technical foundations for teaching, research and administration.

The IT Centre is particularly pleased that Kilian is staying connected to OTH Regensburg. On 1 October 2026, he will begin a degree in Technical Informatics at OTH Regensburg and will continue to work part-time at the IT Centre in parallel. In this way, he will combine his practical experience in IT operations with further academic qualifications.

“Kilian’s successful completion of his apprenticeship means a great deal to us. As the IT Centre’s first apprentice, he has helped shape this new pathway from the very beginning. I am delighted that he will remain with us as a colleague and is now continuing his development by pursuing a degree,” said Head of Apprenticeship Training Wolfgang Moosbauer.

“When we launched the apprenticeship programme at the IT Centre in 2023, our aim was to inspire young people to take an interest in IT at universities and to develop our own skilled workforce. Kilian’s successful completion of the programme shows that we are on the right track. I am delighted that he is continuing his professional and academic development at OTH Regensburg,” said Dr Christian Broser, Head of the IT Centre.

The training of in-house IT specialists is continuing at the IT Centre: Lukas Reichl is currently in his second year of training, whilst Jakob Wallner is in his first year of training as an IT specialist for system integration.
