Music- and movement-based social work

100 alumni, one shared sound

The alumni day for the Music and Movement-Oriented Social Work (BAMU) degree programme at OTH Regensburg brought together generations of BAMU graduates.

A room full of familiar faces, new encounters between different cohorts, and, at the heart of it all, music, movement and lively conversation: Around 100 graduates spanning more than 25 years of the programme’s history gathered on 26 September 2026 for the alumni day of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Music- and Movement-Oriented Social Work (BAMU) at OTH Regensburg.

To kick things off, Programme Director Prof. Renate Kühnel welcomed the alumni, looked back on her 25 years of teaching and provided insights into current developments at the university and within the faculty. The current and long-standing team of lecturers was greeted with warm applause. Anka Draugelates then demonstrated just how quickly a group of individuals can become a community: with a dynamic circle song, she transformed the large gathering into a unified ensemble within a matter of minutes.

Afterwards, six workshops taking place simultaneously were on the programme. Whether it was voice, percussion, dance, inclusion, movement improvisation or theatre: participants were able to gain new inspiration, share experiences and get actively involved themselves.

Just as valuable as the workshops were the encounters in between. Alumni from different cohorts spoke about their career paths, presented their fields of work and exchanged views on Master’s programmes and further training. It became clear just how widely the skills acquired during their studies are now being applied in social, cultural and educational professions.

After eight intensive hours, the official programme concluded with a group dance. However, the conversations continued long into the evening. Participants will remain connected in future via the OTH Regensburg alumni portal. The Alumni Day was financially supported by the Friends of OTH Regensburg Association (Verein der Freunde der OTH Regensburg e. V.).
