Code Week Bavaria celebrates its 5th anniversary

Prof. Dr Johannes Wild from the Faculty of Applied Natural and Cultural Sciences made confetti rain down at the opening ceremony.

With 135 participants, a welcome address from the Bavarian Minister for Digital Affairs and a wide range of hands-on activities, Code Week Bavaria 2026 kicked off at the MINT-Labs in Regensburg at the start of October. Now in its fifth year, the initiative invites children and young people to discover digital technologies through play and to get actively involved themselves.

A particular highlight of the opening event was the talk by Prof. Dr Johannes Wild from the Faculty of Applied Natural and Cultural Sciences at OTH Regensburg. In a clear and child-friendly manner, he explained how acceleration sensors work, inspiring the young visitors’ enthusiasm for physics and technology.

Afterwards, the children counted down to the official start together with Lord Mayor Dr. Thomas Burger and Prof. Dr Johannes Wild. The traditional shower of confetti finally marked the start of the Bavaria-wide action weeks.

Until 6 November, numerous free workshops and hands-on events focusing on programming, tinkering and digital education will be taking place across Bavaria.
