Top grade for vhb course at OTH Regensburg

The CLASSIC vhb course “Employability and Working in Germany”, developed by Prof. Dr. Markus Westner at OTH Regensburg, received the top grade “A” in an external evaluation, both for its subject-specific and didactic quality and for its technical and media-didactic quality. At the same time, participation over the past two semesters demonstrates the Bavaria-wide reach of the offering: 235 individual students from 24 Bavarian higher education institutions took the course in the winter semester 2025/26 and the summer semester 2026.

The CLASSIC vhb course “Employability and Working in Germany” received the grade “A” in both evaluation categories as part of an external evaluation conducted by the Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (vhb). Both the subject-specific and didactic quality as well as the technical and media-didactic quality of the course were awarded the highest possible rating.

The course was developed by Prof. Dr. Markus Westner, Professor of Business Information Systems at OTH Regensburg and Commissioner of the University Executive Board for International Degree Programme Development. The course helps students better understand key requirements of the German labour market and systematically develop their employability.

Course combines digital teaching with a focus on the labour market

“International students bring great professional potential with them. It is important not only to provide them with an academic education, but also to systematically prepare them for entering the labour market in Germany. This is exactly where the course comes in: it combines digital teaching with labour market orientation and thereby makes a concrete contribution to the internationalisation of OTH Regensburg,” says Prof. Dr. Markus Westner.

The Bavaria-wide reach of the offering is also reflected in the current participation figures: 235 individual students from 24 Bavarian higher education institutions took the course in the winter semester 2025/26 and the summer semester 2026.

The course thus fits into OTH Regensburg’s internationalisation strategy and complements the activities surrounding the Regensburg Model. This model combines English-taught STEM bachelor’s degree programmes with systematic German language acquisition, practice-oriented qualification and the aim of preparing international talents academically, linguistically and professionally for the regional labour market.

Supporting international students in their transition to employment

With this positively evaluated vhb course, OTH Regensburg is strengthening its digital teaching portfolio in the field of employability and international student qualification. At the same time, the course contributes to supporting international students in their transition from university studies to professional practice in Germany.

The course “Employability and Working in Germany” is therefore an example of how digital teaching, internationalisation and labour market orientation can be brought together. The external evaluation confirms the quality of the offering and its relevance for the further development of internationally oriented degree programmes at OTH Regensburg and across Bavaria.
