Following a welcome address by Vice-President Prof. Dr Oliver Steffens, in which he highlighted the importance of a knowledge transfer strategy for the university, Dr Moritz Bauer, Knowledge Transfer Manager at the Open Regional Campus (ORCa), presented the results of a survey carried out prior to the workshop. Sixty-three of those contacted took part in the survey, which provides an initial snapshot of attitudes.
Exploring gaps and potential
A World Café session, led by four table facilitators, then focused on four areas of action: knowledge and technology transfer, continuing professional development and academic qualifications, engagement with society, and entrepreneurship, idea transfer and start-ups. Over several rounds, the groups discussed key points regarding the current status quo, sought to identify gaps and potential within it, and considered strategic priorities. The ideas were then shared in a plenary session, and feedback was gathered.
Decision-making planned by the end of 2026
“The next step is to produce draft texts based on the workshop’s findings so that, following a validation process, we can submit a final strategy paper to the Senate for a decision,” says Dr Moritz Bauer, outlining the next steps. This is expected to take place by the end of 2026.
The entire development process for the transfer strategy is being managed by Prof. Dr Oliver Steffens, Vice-President for Research and International Affairs; Dr Marcus Graf, Executive Officer of the Centre for Research and Transfer; Boris Goldberg, Head of the Strategic Development Unit, and Dr Moritz Bauer, Transfer Manager of the Open Regional Campus.
