The event (in English)
On 13 May, Europe celebrates doctoral students and doctoral education for the first time. To mark the occasion, the ARTEMIS Alliance is organising a special online networking event aimed at fostering connections between doctoral students and supervisors at partner universities. This initiative aims to stimulate interdisciplinary dialogue, build meaningful academic connections and create the basis for future collaborations within the Alliance - especially in view of upcoming events such as the Non-Conference (Perugia, June) and the ARTEMIS conference (Constanța, November). At the same time, the event will foster the development of teamwork skills - an essential competence for PhDs - by encouraging collaboration and exchange among peers in different academic settings.

Objectives:

  • Promote networking and collaboration between doctoral students and supervisors
  • Promote interdisciplinary exchange and transversal thinking
  • Identify potential research collaborations between institutions
  • Strengthening engagement within the ARTEMIS alliance

Programme overview

Plenary session
Short presentations by representatives of the partner universities, presenting doctoral programmes and highlighting opportunities for networking, interdisciplinarity and collaboration.

Lightbulb Challenge

  1. Participants will be divided into small, mixed groups of PhD students from the partner universities and given an initial creative task to simulate collaboration: Each member contributes an individual idea that must be integrated into a joint result. The teams then work together under time pressure to jointly develop and present their results. This is followed by a guided debriefing session to reflect on team roles, decision-making and group dynamics.
  2. Participants then take part in the "Lightbulb Challenge", where each group is given a topic derived from the three thematic pillars of the ARTEMIS Alliance - Technology and Transport, Health and Environment, and Migration and Human Rights - and asked to design a short, easy-to-understand explanation for a lay audience using limited resources and creative methods.
  3. The activity will end with final presentations in plenary, judged by a panel of representatives from the doctoral schools of all partner universities, followed by a second reflective discussion on teamwork processes and roles, and recognition of the most effective outcomes of the collaboration.

Required preparation:
Participants are requested to submit the following in advance:

  • The title of their dissertation
  • Three relevant keywords
