Since the beginning of 2014, the collaboration between the OTH Regensburg and Amberg-Weiden has bundled its cross-university research work in the following nine research clusters:

• Intelligent Microstructures and Chemical Analysis (IMCA)
• Designing with Plastics, Focus on Joining Technology and Lightweight Construction (KmK)
• Laboratory for Safe and Secure Systems (LaS³)
• Sustainable Building and Historical Building Research (NBHB)
• Robotics and Big Data (RBD)

Researchers from Regensburg and Amberg-Weiden cooperate within these research units following the OTH key topic areas.
