Short-term

During the first four years of the project, ARTEMIS will test new forms of academic collaboration by implementing innovative pedagogical approaches (such as a challenge-based approach), a new flexible and personalized European curriculum, the establishment of a resource pool and the creation of joint research structures (including ARTEMIS Research Centres, Research Beacon Groups and Research Leagues)

ARTEMIS pursues an integrated, interdisciplinary strategy that encompasses the following areas:

  • Education
  • transnational academic mobility
  • research
  • innovation
  • co-creation
  • social commitment

In order to achieve our goals, we are addressing regional mobility challenges in key areas such as:

  • Technology and transportation
  • Environment and Energy
  • Medicine and health
  • Agriculture and food industry
  • Circular economy
  • law
  • Economy and business
  • Humanities
  • and creative arts

Long-term

ARTEMIS will contribute significantly to the sustainable social and economic development of regions, including the transformation of mobility and transportation of people and goods - a goal that Europe must achieve within the next 30 years:

  • The partners will update existing educational curricula and develop new curricula in the three cycles (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate) as well as in the field of lifelong learning. This will be based on multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral approaches, integrating student-centered learning and challenge-based education with a focus on mobility in a broad sense and regional development.
  • The alliance will promote interdisciplinary research and cooperation frameworks that are closely linked to socio-economic issues. To this end, several joint interdisciplinary research and innovation laboratories will be developed with the involvement of all relevant stakeholders: Transport and mobility users, public authorities, policy makers, industry and business, providers of transport and mobility infrastructure and services as well as non-governmental organizations. ARTEMIS will generate data and publications in the spirit of open science to maximize impact and reusability.
  • ARTEMIS will strengthen innovation capacity and regional development in the network of higher education institutions by establishing and expanding targeted support structures. This will be done through key instruments: EURECA, ADA and KIC-ART. EURECA will integrate different local innovation systems into a powerful meta-cluster, ADA will cover the full spectrum of entrepreneurial deep-tech activities from origin to scale-up, and KIC-ART will pool R&D resources to drive high technology readiness projects. These initiatives will jointly promote mobility innovation and regional growth and are in line with the EU's objectives for comprehensive, cross-sectoral innovation.
  • Social participation is central to ARTEMIS' approach to promoting a truly European model of solution sharing. By 2026, the initiative will establish eight Living Labs across the consortium, which will be expanded into a pan-European network by 2029. These hubs will be spaces for co-creation - with citizens, industry and business, NGOs, academia and other stakeholders. This collaborative framework across the eight partners will ensure that the solutions developed are not only effective locally, but resonate across Europe and embody a collective approach to tackling common challenges - with the following outcomes:
  • Conducting research to tackle environmental and climate issues with the aim of achieving climate neutrality, reversing biodiversity loss and ending pollution;
  • Developing climate and environmental literacy at all levels of education and in all disciplines and engaging the public through community engagement.
