OTH Regensburg students visit Texas Instruments

25 students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at OTH Regensburg took the opportunity to go on an excursion to the European headquarters of Texas Instruments in Freising and take a look behind the scenes at one of the world's leading semiconductor companies.

In May, 25 students and three professors from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at OTH Regensburg took part in an excursion to the European headquarters of Texas Instruments in Freising. There they were welcomed by the OTH Campus Team, which was set up by Texas Instruments to liaise with the OTH Regensburg. On this occasion, the students were able to find out about career opportunities at Texas Instruments and also learnt about the concept of so-called rotation programmes, in which new employees go through several areas of activity in the company when they join, giving them the opportunity to choose the right job for their inclinations.

In highly interesting presentations by experienced engineers, participants were introduced to the activities of field application engineers, chip development engineers and test engineers. The extensive overlap between the practical teaching of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the requirements of a leading industrial company in the semiconductor sector was also made clear.

After a joint lunch, the participants were able to gain an impression of modern semiconductor production during a guided tour of the production facility in Freising, starting with the raw material of the silicon wafer, through various process steps such as photolithography, dry etching and ion implantation, to the testing of the finished chips.

Excursions with this framework are an important element in the further expansion of the co-operation between OTH Regensburg and Texas Instruments and also generally promote the students' awareness of the diverse career prospects offered by the semiconductor industry in the immediate vicinity of OTH. The representatives of both sides concluded by confirming their intention to organise regular joint excursions on this scale in the future.
