Prof. Dr. Rainer Holmer elected to the Executive Board of VDE VDI GMM

The Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology will be contributing his expertise at national level in future.

Prof. Dr. Rainer Holmer, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at OTH Regensburg, has been elected to the board of the VDE/VDI Society for Microelectronics and Microsystems Technology (GMM) for the term of office from 2026 to 2028. His election significantly strengthens the university's high level of expertise in the field of microelectronics and semiconductor technology at the national level.

Prof. Dr. Holmer looks back on a long career in science and industry. After studying electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and obtaining his doctorate in the field of temperature measurement technology, he spent many years at Siemens AG in various management positions in semiconductor development and production. He has been teaching and researching at OTH Regensburg since 2015 and has been Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology since 2022.

With around 6,500 members, GMM represents key future fields such as microelectronics, microsystems, nano and precision engineering. It promotes dialogue between science, industry and politics and makes an important contribution to securing the innovation and competitiveness of Germany as a technology location. Prof. Holmer brings to the board his many years of experience in semiconductor production, test technology and the academic training of young engineers.
