OTH Regensburg has once again been certified as a ‘Fairtrade University’. Since 2014, Fairtrade Deutschland e. V. has been awarding this title to colleges and universities that have demonstrated their commitment to fair trade according to defined criteria. The renewed certification confirms that fairness and sustainability are firmly anchored on the OTH Regensburg campus.
Over the past few semesters, the Fairtrade steering group has held regular meetings to discuss how the topics of ‘Fairtrade’ and ‘fair trade’ can be further strengthened on campus. The focus was on questions such as how information about fair trade can be passed on to students, how awareness of sustainable consumption can be promoted and how the range of fair trade products can be expanded. These considerations gave rise to numerous projects and campaigns. One highlight was the Fairtrade breakfast in the student union, which was organised especially for students. In a relaxed atmosphere, various fair trade products were sampled and experiences regarding consumption and purchasing behaviour were exchanged.
The range of fair trade products in the cafeterias has also been expanded – since May 2025, for example, Fairtrade bananas have been on offer. In addition, information about Fairtrade was provided at events such as the campus festival, and students had the opportunity to test their knowledge in a quiz and win fair trade products.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone involved who contributed to meeting the criteria. The renewed certification is recognition of the commitment at OTH Regensburg and, at the same time, an incentive to continue working towards a sustainable and fair future.
