OTH Regensburg at the Construction Informatics Forum 2025 in Aachen

With innovative approaches and AI-supported solutions, the Building Lab at OTH Regensburg presented its latest research findings on digital construction planning at the Forum Bauinformatik 2025 in Aachen.

The Building Lab at OTH Regensburg was represented at this year's Forum Bauinformatik (Construction Informatics Forum) at RWTH Aachen University with several scientific contributions. The team led by Prof. Mathias Obergrießer presented current research results on digital methods in construction and infrastructure planning and showed how artificial intelligence and other digital tools can be used in a targeted manner to measurably improve planning and construction processes.

The research team, consisting of Anna-Maria Mehringer, Jonas Wiederer, Maik Görgner and Simon Höng, presented the latest findings from several research projects. The focus was on how construction projects can be digitally mapped so that planners and builders can be meaningfully supported through the use of a wide variety of AI technologies. The primary focus was on developing an AI agent for the early design and planning phase, as errors in this phase often have a major impact on the overall value creation of the project. Specifically, the study examined the extent to which domain-specific AI agents can help identify sound decisions, for example, to ensure the design and optimisation of construction-specific tasks or the efficient use of materials, time and resources. The research made it clear that artificial intelligence can be a valuable tool in the planning process, especially when it is designed and developed in a transparent, comprehensible and user-oriented manner. Only when its functioning remains understandable and its results are trustworthy can AI contribute to expanding planning competence and promoting sustainable decisions.

In addition to the presentations, the OTH Regensburg team took the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from Germany and abroad. The open dialogue between research and practice was seen as a valuable impetus for the further development of digital methods in construction. After intensive discussions and exciting insights into current research work, the team is already looking forward to the upcoming Forum Bauinformatik 2026 in Rostock, which will once again offer space for exchange, cooperation and new ideas.
