To mark the national Day of Commemoration, which takes place around the anniversary of the proclamation of the Basic Law on 23 May, OTH Regensburg is taking part with a hands-on exhibition on campus. The Day of Commemoration was initiated by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier under the motto “For you. For us. For everyone.” and serves as a symbol of social cohesion, responsibility and solidarity in action.
The exhibition focuses on the question of what significance the Basic Law has for everyday life at OTH Regensburg. In the run-up to the event, students, lecturers and staff were invited to contribute their thoughts and experiences. Three key questions formed the basis:
- What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the German Basic Law?
- What role does the Basic Law play in your everyday life at OTH Regensburg?
- What are your hopes for the future regarding the Basic Law?
Using the contributions submitted, the Green Office team has created the “Wall of Thoughts” – with plenty of space for visitors to the exhibition to add their own thoughts. The exhibition invites visitors to discover the diverse perspectives of the university community and to add their own thoughts.
The exhibition is complemented by selected quotes and excerpts from the series of articles “Facts vs. Fake News – Science Explains Democracy”. Over the past few weeks, professors from OTH Regensburg have examined current social challenges and fundamental democratic values from an academic perspective in the Mittelbayerische Zeitung. The articles address key areas of tension within our democracy and broaden the discussion surrounding the Basic Law.
Honour Day is a joint initiative of the Federal President and the German Foundation for Civic Engagement and Volunteering.
