Crossborder Conference

Focus on interdisciplinary approaches in stroke therapy

The Czech-Bavarian Crossborder Conference marks the end of the second of three project phases of the Interreg project NEURO – “Training of a multidisciplinary Czech-Bavarian team of students in neurorehabilitation”, which has been running at OTH Regensburg since September 2023.

The conference was opened at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen by Mgr. Iva Hereitová and Johannis Mertens, M.Sc., with a presentation of the project and a review of past project activities from the 2024/2025 academic year. This was followed by 14 presentations by student groups from the Czech Republic and Germany on their practical and research-based work on stroke therapy.

Innovative therapy concepts and case studies

Transnational teams presented their individually developed therapy concepts and case studies of real stroke patients. In addition, they showed initial results of sensor-based test procedures that they had developed together during the previous semester.

Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE) projects

Pain Neuroscience Education is an educational approach that helps patients to better manage pain by teaching them about pain, reducing their fear of movement and encouraging them to become more active.

Eighth-semester physiotherapy students Elisabeth Rödle, Johanna Popp, Celina Gleißner and Thomas Wagner presented their qualitative needs analysis on supplementary PNE materials for physiotherapists. In addition, Michaela Hammon, Jara Giraud, Sophie Schiener, Josefa Mayer and Elisabeth Besser presented their qualitative project on the development and evaluation of a culturally adapted pain history for the German-speaking region.

Analysis of the current state of documentation in physiotherapy practices

Against the backdrop of the introduction of electronic prescriptions for therapeutic remedies and the legal requirements for connecting physiotherapy practices to the telematics infrastructure, Hannah Kilchert, Nathalie Schöngart, Nele Rohmert, Jessica Esterlich and Sonja Weighart examined the current state of documentation in physiotherapy practices in their quantitative analysis.

The student group led by Franziska Liepold, Anna Lena Schuster, Clara Branz and Sabina Bauer analysed age-related differences in their observational study – a topic of high relevance in rehabilitation.

Joint outlook

The event marked not only the end of an intensive academic year, but also the successful completion of the second phase of the Interreg project. The students' tremendous commitment and the close cooperation between OTH Regensburg, Charles University and the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen contributed significantly to the project's success.
