On 11 June 2025, Martina Judmann, experienced project manager at the Schaeffler Group, was a guest at the project management lecture in the Regenerative Energy Technology and Energy Efficiency course at OTH Regensburg. The event was organised by Prof. Dr. Plach as part of the Regensburg School of Digital Sciences (RSDS).
Under the title ‘Underestimated points in project management’, Ms Judmann shed light on central, often overlooked success factors in projects. She focussed in particular on the critical importance of the planning and initiation phase. This is often neglected, but forms the foundation for smooth project realisation.
Another focus was on the selection and role of a suitable project manager. In addition to technical expertise, leadership, communication skills and a good feel for the team are crucial. Equally important: support from management. It enables the optimal utilisation of resources and a consistent focus on strategic goals.
Ms Judmann also paid particular attention to risk management. Many projects fail not because of technical challenges, but due to inadequate risk provisioning. Early identification and assessment of potential risks is therefore essential in order to avoid possible crises.
At the end of the presentation, Ms Judmann took questions from the students. The audience was particularly interested in the selection and qualification of project managers in practice. The answer: in addition to specialised knowledge, personal qualities and close coordination with management also play a central role.
With authentic examples and valuable impulses from corporate practice, Martina Judmann provided a deep insight into the complexity of project management - and left a lasting impression on the students.
