OTH teaching innovation professorship 2023
Interview with Prof. Dr. Michael Görtler
Prof. Dr. Görtler, what are you doing in your innovation professorship?
Essentially, it's about developing, testing and evaluating a skills-oriented and media-based teaching concept for theory-practice transfer in social work studies, focusing on the didactic design of the teaching of theory as well as the linking of studies and professional activity or the application of theory in practice and the reflection of practical experience in teaching.
How could other teachers, students and researchers (at OTH) benefit from your projects?
The development, testing and evaluation of a teaching concept for a competence-oriented and media-based theory-practice transfer could make a relevant contribution both to research and teaching in social work and to practice-oriented academic higher education at the OTH. This could be done, for example, through direct contact with students in courses, exchange with lecturers and the publication of results in this context.
What motivated you to realize a teaching innovation?
I have been involved with theory-practice transfer both in teaching (e.g. as part of courses on theories of social work) and in research (e.g. as part of studies and publications on the challenges of professional action between theory and practice or on theory-practice transfer) for several years. The teaching innovation professorship offers me the opportunity to deepen this area and to generate new ideas together with the Service Center for Teaching and Didactics.
How innovative do you think your LIP is?
Research into teaching and didactics in social work is still underdeveloped - this is particularly true of theory-practice transfer. Against this background, the development, testing and evaluation of a teaching concept for a competence-oriented and media-based theory-practice transfer could make a relevant contribution both to research and teaching in social work and to practice-oriented academic higher education at the OTH.
Why should there be a stronger focus on theory-practice transfer?
Theory-practice transfer is of great importance in social work, which is of great importance to the OTH as a university of applied sciences, with regard to the social work courses that can be studied there - on the one hand because of the practice-oriented academic higher education as a task and goal of the OTH, and on the other hand because of the integrated practical phases in the respective courses, which are intended to prepare students for professional action in the profession.
