Procedure within the Faculties

The selection process for a study placement abroad varies from faculty to faculty and sometimes from degree programme to degree programme. Find out about the procedure in your faculty and in your degree programme from the following overview.

Application Procedure for a Study Semester Abroad

This only applies to students from the faculties Architecture, Applied Natural Sciences and Cultural Studies (excluding IRM!), Civil Engineering, Business Studies (excluding EB!), Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Social and Health Care Sciences

Applications are processed entirely through our online system Mobility-Online.

An information session for your faculty will take place at the end of September/beginning of October (for the following summer semester) and in mid-March (for the following winter semester). Here you will learn everything you need to know about the application process and the organisation of your semester abroad and you will receive the link to register in Mobility-Online.

The exact date and the zoom link for the event will be posted well in advance in the ELO course titled Das theoretische Auslandssemester+. If you are unable to attend the event, you will also find the presentation of the event in the ELO course afterwards.

After the application deadline (usually 7-10 days after the information event), the International Office will evaluate the applications and contact you within a few days.

There will likely be enough places available at partner universities, but we cannot guarantee that you will get your first choice.

  • Many of your questions about the semester abroad will already have been answered in the course "Preparation for studying abroad" (2nd semester of your studies).

The application procedure for studying at a partner university takes place twice a year:

    for the summer semester: August

    For the winter semester: March

Students can apply for a place for the upcoming summer semester and winter semester. The application process takes place exclusively via our Mobility Online Tool.
The link to the platform will be sent out as soon as possible.
For this purpose, you must provide a priority list of 3 partner universities.

If there are more applicants than places, the decision will be made by drawing lots.

You can find up-to-date information in the ELO course: IRM Auslandsvor- und -nachbereitung (IRM Preparation and Follow-up for your Studies Abroad)

  • An internal selection procedure is in place in your faculty.

You can find further information in the ELO course.
