Four winners from OTH Regensburg at the 2024 Bavarian Construction Industry University Prize

On 19 November 2024, this year's winners were awarded the Bavarian Construction Industry Association's University Prize at the Oskar-von-Miller-Forum in Munich.

The prize, which is being awarded for the fourth time, is primarily aimed at Bavarian universities with civil engineering faculties and selected Bavarian universities. The Faculty of Civil Engineering at OTH Regensburg was once again very successful this year. Four of the ten prize winners came from OTH Regensburg. Three prizes were awarded in each of three categories, endowed with €2,000, €1,000 and €500.

The university prize promotes practical and creative work for the further development of the construction industry. In addition to supporting young talents, it strengthens the exchange between universities and construction companies in order to transfer research findings into practice and promote innovative concepts. Minister of State Thorsten Glauber emphasised the social importance of the construction industry and encouraged the award winners to implement their ideas boldly and unconventionally in order to shape the industry sustainably.

In the ‘Innovative materials and constructions’ category, Franz-Xaver Webhofer took second place with his bachelor's thesis entitled ‘Production and optimisation of a heavy concrete recipe for wind power foundations’, supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Simon Moosbauer was awarded third prize for his master's thesis ‘RC concrete in practice’, supervised by Prof Dr Charlotte Thiel.

The special prize in the category ‘Computer-aided modelling and production’ went to Max Peetz for his bachelor's thesis ‘Design of a WU basement made of steel fibre concrete using a material-specific implementation in an FEM system’. He was also supervised by Prof Dr Wolfgang Finckh.

Julia Schiehandl took third place in the ‘Circular and regenerative construction’ category with her master's thesis ‘Inventory analysis and hazard identification for municipal flash flood risk concepts’. As she is currently conducting comparative studies on her master's thesis in America, her prize was accepted on behalf of her supervisor Prof. Dr Andreas Ottl.
