Prospective students

Large crowds at the Regensburg University Day 2025

More than 3,500 pupils informed themselves on site and digitally about the wide range of degree programmes offered by Regensburg's universities.

The University of Regensburg (UR), OTH Regensburg and the Regensburg University of Catholic Church Music and Music Education (HfKM) presented their extensive range of educational programmes on Friday, 14 February 2025. Over 3,500 visitors took the opportunity to find out about the programmes offered by the institutions, either on site or digitally. From the ‘Additional study programme in gender competence’ to lectures on ‘Midwifery’ and ‘Mechanical engineering - because only superheroes can save the world’ to the courses offered by the University of Catholic Church Music and Music Education: at the joint Regensburg University Day, visitors were able to gain insights into a wide range of educational fields, ask questions about the course of studies and applications, visit laboratories and experience the campus. Those interested made particularly good use of the digital programme via smartphone.

Experience the campus and hold personal talks

Prof. Dr Nikolaus Korber, Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Continuing Education at the UR, was delighted that so many prospective students once again took the opportunity to experience the campus and talk to lecturers and students in person: ‘As a comprehensive university, the University of Regensburg offers a wide range of courses. This includes professionally-oriented degree programmes such as medicine, law, teaching and pharmacy as well as traditional academic disciplines such as mathematics, philosophy and economics. The range is supplemented by interdisciplinary combined degree programmes that are specifically tailored to a wide range of academic and professional requirements. For the first time this year, students were also able to find out about the Lower Bavaria Medical Campus and the additional degree programme in Sustainability. At the Regensburg University Day, visitors had the opportunity to discover this diversity directly on campus and receive individual advice on their choice of degree programme.’

Numerous guided tours and lectures

This year, school pupils were once again able to gain their own impression of Regensburg as a study location: In addition to guided tours through the library, across the campus and through the laboratories, representatives of the faculties and departments of all three universities were available to answer questions at the numerous stands. Various institutions such as the Green Offices, the University of Regensburg Orchestra, the Studierendenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz, the Bavarian-Czech University Agency (BTHA) and the Student Lifecycle Centre at OTH Regensburg were also present. Interested parties learnt all about studying with disabilities, options for student funding and scholarships, ways to study abroad or dual study programmes. Around 150 presentations dealt with topics such as ‘Teacher training at the University of Regensburg’, ‘Biochemistry B.Sc.’ or ‘How our students learn for practice: guided tour through the microtechnological high-tech clean room’.

Practical training at OTH Regensburg

The Vice Presidents of OTH Regensburg, Prof. Dr Carina Braun (Student Lifecycle Management) and Prof. Dr Birgit Rösel (Studies and Teaching), welcomed the students to the Regensburg University Day via video message. They were delighted with the great interest shown by the young people and explained what makes studying at OTH Regensburg, which was recently voted Bavaria's most popular university in the StudyCheck ranking, so special: ‘Studying at OTH Regensburg means more than just academic knowledge - it is a practical education that optimally prepares young people for their professional future. As a technical university, we offer far more than just technical degree programmes: from engineering and economics to architecture, social sciences and health professions - our range of subjects is broad. The combination of theory and practice and the teaching of future skills, which are essential in the modern working world, are particularly important to us. Regensburg is not only an excellent place to study, but also a city with a lively university community and numerous opportunities to network and get involved.’

Prof Franz Josef Stoiber, Rector of the HfKM, was delighted with the successful Regensburg University Day: ‘After the University Day, it's time to try things out again. The HfKM offers a preparatory course. At our university, there are four pillars: church music, music education (instrumental and vocal teacher training), secondary school music and young students' programmes.’
