This year, a team from OTH Regensburg joined the approximately 1,000 participants: Prof. Dr. Christoph Höller, Prof. Dr. Heiko Unold, Prof. Dr. Andreas Maier, Prof. Dr. Rudolf Bierl and Prof. Dr. Matthias Ehrnsperger.
‘We enjoy cycling, we enjoy being out and about in good company, and the first week of August is a wonderful time for a holiday together,’ said Prof. Dr. Höller. But it was about more than just exercise and socialising: sustainability was a key concern for the entire team.
The majority of the team of professors commute to OTH Regensburg by bicycle every day – and they do so out of conviction. By participating in the BR bike tour, they also want to encourage others to leave their cars at home more often, get on their bikes and thus make a valuable contribution to environmental protection.
In total, the team covered a distance of around 570 kilometres on the tour, which stretched from Bad Neustadt an der Saale to Neuburg an der Donau.
City Cycling in Regensburg
OTH Regensburg also participated successfully in another cycling event: With an impressive 49,421 kilometres, OTH Regensburg took first place in this year's City Cycling event in Regensburg. Between 17 May and 6 June 2025, almost 300 active cyclists, including students, employees and alumni, pedalled together for the climate.
‘Our goal was clear: to reach the top of the rankings,’ says Prof. Dr. Johannes Schildgen, captain of the OTH Regensburg team. This was achieved with fun, team spirit and the right amount of ambition. In addition to the competitive sporting atmosphere, the campaign focuses particularly on sustainability. OTH Regensburg wants to set an example and encourage people to use bicycles more often as a more sustainable alternative to cars.
A total of almost 700,000 kilometres were covered during City Cycling in Regensburg.
Whether it's City Cycling or the BR Bike Tour, OTH Regensburg keeps moving and shows how commitment to climate protection, health and community can be successfully combined.
