The right degree programme for everyone

Pupils from the Vocational School Plus at the Neumarkt Vocational School Centre were guests at OTH Regensburg.

‘Studying’ was on the timetable for the pupils of “Berufsschule Plus” at the Neumarkt vocational school centre. The pupils in years 12 and 13 visited the OTH Regensburg. They learnt about the use of robots in production and logistics and found out how Donald Trump financed his Trump Tower in New York. They were also able to find out about the opportunities for studying.

‘Berufsschule Plus’ (BS+) means that students at the Neumarkt vocational school centre not only attend vocational school, but can also complete their Abitur. ‘The important thing for us as a school,’ said Christian Finger, Head of BS+ and member of the school management of the BSZ Neumarkt, describing the aim of the event, ’is to use this visit to the OTH Regensburg to show the students what else they can do with their Abitur.’ Martin Hornauer, himself a graduate of OTH Regensburg and now a teacher in Neumarkt, had organised the visit - important to him: ‘Seeing and experiencing for yourself is better than being told in class.’ He showed the students where he had studied business administration.

Professor Stefan Galka, together with doctoral students, had the robots driven in his laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at OTH Regensburg. ‘Technology is fun,’ said the industrial engineer, explaining to the pupils how he came to choose a technical degree programme. ‘It's a lot of maths at the beginning, then a lot of technical understanding is required,’ he said, ’but then the robots do drive.’

Kathrin Köpf from OTH Regensburg's student advisory service encouraged the pupils to find out about studying at OTH Regensburg early and comprehensively. ‘We have so many options,’ she said, adding that there are no ’difficult and easy degree programmes, only suitable and unsuitable ones.’ She provided information about studying at the university in Regensburg in lectures and individual counselling sessions.

‘How did Donald Trump do it with his Trump Organisation? - Building a property empire with almost no equity,’ Professor Claus Koss opened his trial lecture. ‘We teach you how you can do that - without becoming a criminal,’ revealed the Professor of Business Administration. He showed that balance sheets were crucial for granting loans - and how US accounting law enables write-ups.
