Since Wednesday, 17 September 2025, two preparatory courses have been optimally preparing first-year students at the faculty for the start of their studies. The aim is to refresh their basic knowledge of mathematics and computer science and thus create a common level of knowledge – because the participants have very different levels of prior knowledge.
For the second time this year, an online preparatory course in English, specially developed for the International Computer Science (ICS) programme, is being offered in parallel with the face-to-face course. Around 30 students are currently participating. The topics covered in mathematics and computer science correspond to those of the face-to-face courses.
In addition, an English-language preparatory course in mathematics is being held for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Here, too, there is now an international offering with the International Mechanical Engineering (IME) programme.
The face-to-face preparatory course takes place in a total of ten small groups – five for computer science and five for mathematics – with up to 30 participants each. They are accompanied by ten tutors who lead the courses. Modern computers with Windows and Linux operating systems are available for the computer science preparatory course.
At the end of the preparatory course, the student council of the IM faculty invites participants to a brunch on the last day of the course. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants can talk to each other and make initial contacts. The student council also introduces itself and provides an insight into its work.
