From research to practice: energy and heat management for small and medium-sized enterprises

On 10 February 2026, a new edition of the IHK Regensburg "Science meets business" series took place together with the Technologie Campus Schwandorf. The focus was on energy and heat management. Over 40 participants travelled to Nabaltec AG in Schwandorf. The participants were given up-to-date insights and ideas for greater energy efficiency and energy management in their own companies. At the same time, the event promoted dialogue between science and industry.

The morning was characterised by a wide range of specialist presentations from science and industry. The aim was to highlight different aspects and perspectives on the topic of energy and heat and to promote dialogue between research institutions and companies.

Prof Dr Oliver Brückl, Professor of Electrical Networks, Grid and Energy Management at OTH Regensburg and Acting Scientific Director of the Technology Campus Schwandorf (TC Schwandorf), kicked off the event. In his presentation, he emphasised the high relevance of efficient energy management - especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In view of rising energy costs, systematic energy management is increasingly becoming a decisive competitive factor. In this context, he presented the iEMOS project (intelligent energy management and optimisation system), which aims to support SMEs and industry in transparently recording their energy consumption, identifying optimisation potential and implementing sustainable measures.

Prof Dr Lechner, Professor of Environmental Technology at OTH Amberg-Weiden and Managing Director of the Institute for Energy Technology (IfE) GmbH, then spoke. He presented the work of the institute and showed how companies receive practical support in their energy transformation. This results in customised transformation concepts that aim to increase energy efficiency and secure long-term economic benefits for companies.

Josef Bayer, Managing Director of EnSolVision GmbH, then spoke about how his company provides practical support to companies in efficient energy management and presented some particularly successful practical examples.

Dr Alfred Riemer, Head of Plant and Process Development at Nabaltec AG, then provided fascinating insights into the use of energy and increasing efficiency within the company.

At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to socialise over coffee and make new contacts.
