Electrical Machines and Drive Engineering Laboratory

The Electrical Machines Laboratory provides 20 test benches with robust grey cast iron foundations allowing even quite heavy machines to be tested. These test benches can be supplied with fixed and variable d.c. and three-phase current and with up to 150 kW of power. Variable transformers, motor-generator sets, static converters and frequency inverters are all available for this purpose. The laboratory is used to carry out practical tests and experiments in the field of electrical machines, drive engineering and mechatronics. The experiments range from conventional testing and measurement of electrical machines to the testing of modern variable-speed three-phase machines fed from different frequency inverters which are used in industrial production plants and automation. Analog and digital instruments such as oscilloscopes and power analysers are provided for measurements and can also be used to analyse harmonics and other grid perturbations.
