A semester abroad broadens personal horizons: It provides insights into teaching and learning of one's own department in other countries, increases intercultural competence, improves foreign language skills. A successfully completed semester abroad is always a plus point for future employers.
A study abroad usually includes 1-2 semesters at a university (TU, Polytechnic), a university HAW or an academy.
You do not give up your status as an OTH student for a semester abroad. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) facilitates the recognition of credits earned at foreign universities.
Students are free to choose how many credit points they want to achieve abroad. We recommend 24-30 credit points. However, financial support (Erasmus, scholarships, Auslandsbafög) often requires proof of study progress.
How do you prepare your studies?
The faculty maintains cooperative agreements with a number of universities. In this, the universities agree to exchange a certain number of students per semester/year. If you are interested in studying abroad, you can apply for one of these places.
Alternatively, you can look for a university in a country of your choice yourself and apply there.
An agreement, a so-called " Learning Agreement", will be concluded with the chosen university.
The student submits an application for a semester abroad to the International Office.
The International Office will provide you with information about the possibilities of financial support.
The health insurance company must also be informed in good time about the stay abroad and a confirmation of the assumption of benefits must be applied for.
Visa and entry formalities only exist for non-European countries; these are handled together with the International Office.
In principle, students of the OTH Regensburg can study at any university worldwide. However, it is important that the OTH Regensburg would also accept students from the university.
The Faculty of Architecture has numerous partner universities, and contacts are continually being expanded.
Current partnerships are:
China, Qingdao Technological University
France; ENSACF Clermont-Ferrand
France: ENSAS Strassbourg
Italy; Politecnico Mailand
Spain; Universidade da Coruna
Spain; Universidad del país Vasco, San Sebastian
South Afrika, University of Johannesburg (with DAAD Exchange programme ISAP)
The faculty is also a member of the renowned Cumulus Association . All member schools of the Association are eligible as exchange partners.
(Especially interesting for industrial design, but there are also schools of architecture among the members).
The faculty also maintains an international cooperation with the Universidad da Coruña and the ENSA Clermont-Ferrand in the master's program in architecture, which has existed since 1995. Under the title "Iacobus", a design studio is held every summer semester on the theme of the architectural heritage in the region of the alternating university. This design studio begins with a one-week design workshop of all three colleges at the institution setting the task. The design process then takes place at the individual colleges throughout the summer semester. At the end of the semester, the work is presented to a jury at the following year's host university, which awards a national prize among the participants from each university and the overall "Prix Rafael Baltar" prize among all participants. An internship abroad can also be a great personal gain: in addition to gaining your first practical experience abroad, you can expand your personal network. Experience abroad is also an advantage when looking for a job.

Dear students of the Faculty of Architecture,
As Prof. Dr. Rochus Hinkel starts his new job at the University of Melbourne, not only an extremely committed lecturer and initiator of essential innovations in teaching and laboratories of the Faculty of Architecture, but also our international representative will leave us in summer semester 2020.

Therefore, we ask you to contact the International Office by e-mail with all questions regarding a possible, upcoming, current or completed stay abroad. They will be able to assist you in planning and executing your semester abroad and, in cooperation with the PK chairs, to create a Learning Agreement. Please plan and contact them early, e.g. immediately at the beginning of the semester before your planned stay abroad.
The following deadlines generally apply:
